Mount Yamnuska, Alberta
Officially named Mount John Laurie in 1961, this magnificent peak is a beloved landmark clearly visible along Transcanada Highway known by various names. It is often referred to as Mount Laurie, or by its Nakoda name, Mount Yamnuska, which translates to "wall of stone." The Nakoda people named it Yamnuska, derived from the Stoney Nakoda word Iyamnathka, which aptly describes the steep cliffs and the imposing presence of this flat-faced mountain.
