Mount Michener
Wood and Stain 13.00" x 21.0" (33cm x 53cm)
Crossing the frozen Lake Abraham was an adventure in itself, as it was the only way to reach Mount Michener. The journey took us through a dense forest on an unmarked and poorly maintained trail, making route finding extremely challenging, especially in the early hours of the morning. As we neared the summit, we paused to catch our breath and admire the breathtaking view as the sun slowly rose on the horizon. In that moment, while I was captivated by the beauty of the sky and the rising sun, my hiking companion stood silently on the slope, taking in the same awe-inspiring sight. I managed to capture this magical moment in a photograph.
When I later sat at home and reviewed the images I had collected, I couldn't help but feel a sense of amazement and gratitude. This experience was truly incredible, to say the least. It was a true test of survival skills and a feat worth celebrating.
I created this wood art piece with the intention of showcasing the texture and delineation of a mountain escape. By carefully selecting different types of wood and using various techniques, I was able to bring out the natural beauty and intricacies and details of the mountains. The varying grains, contour and colours of the wood perfectly represent the ruggedness and serenity of the mountain landscape.
The result is a captivating piece of art that captures the essence of a mountain escape, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in its beauty and tranquility.
